Biopesticides - SKS BB

These are number of microorganisms like fungi, bacteria and viruses which parasites and kill insects. There are more fungal pathogens than others. A number of fungal diseases appear in epidemic form and destroy their insect hosts in large numbers. Now there is great interest on such fungi for controlling insect pests without causing environmental damage and with economical advantage in comparison to chemical pesticides. Some of the important entomopathogenic fungi are: Beauveria bassiana, B. brongniatrii, Verticillium lecanii, Metarhizium anisopliae, etc. There are being used on several crop insect pests very effectively.

The white muscardine fungus effectively suppresses the population of white grubs damaging roots of sugarcane, sweet potato, groundnut, coconut, plantation crops etc.

This is also effective against several lepidopteron crop pests such as Helicoverpa armigera, diamond back moth, sugarcane early shoot borer, rice green leaf hopper and brown plant hopper and coffee berry borer.
